The Role of a Developmental Specialist

An Early Intervention (EI) Developmental Specialist (DSI) works with infants and toddlers who have developmental delays or disabilities to promote their growth and development. Their role involves conducting assessments, creating individualized family service plans (IFSPs), and implementing play-based strategies to build essential skills. They also educate and support families, coordinate and provide direct treatment along with other professionals, and monitor the child's progress to ensure comprehensive care and advocate for needed resources. The DSI provides direct support with children, tailored to a child's specific needs, to foster foundational cognitive, social, physical, communicative and emotional growth.
